My name is Jimmy Petersen. I grew up in the inner city with a dinosaur from a previous era next door. Within its belly I would find furnaces, fiery-hot liquids and an amazing array of metal products coming out the other end. Indeed, I grew up next to a foundry. The men who worked there always kept me safe, but happily let me watch them stoke up fires and pour molten metal. This foundry specialised in making nuts and bolts for factories with old machinery. This saved those manufacturers a lot of money as they weren't faced with buying new equipment. I'm a designer these days so I remain captivated by the manufacturing process, particularly metal products. Perhaps this site can enlighten you about the complexity behind everyday items. May these postings help you understand a little of the joy I felt when exploring that foundry as a young boy.
